How Many Restroom Attendants Does Your Event Need?
Restrooms make or break the guest experience at large events. Here is how to think about restroom attendant staffing by attendance, peak hours, and venue type.
Ask any event organizer about their worst guest complaints and restrooms are near the top of the list. The fix is rarely more toilets — it is keeping the ones you have clean, stocked, and pleasant all night. That takes attendants.
It is about peak, not average
Restroom demand spikes hard — between sets, at intermission, right after doors. Staff to the peak. A bank of restrooms that looks fine at 7pm can be overwhelmed by 9pm without an attendant keeping pace.
A practical starting point
- Assign at least one attendant per major restroom bank or trailer during peak hours;
- For high-traffic events, rotate attendants so cleaning never stops;
- Add coverage for VIP and ADA facilities, which guests expect to be spotless;
- Scale up for events serving alcohol — usage and mess both climb.
What a good attendant actually does
Restocking paper and soap, wiping surfaces, clearing the floor, flagging plumbing issues early, and simply being a visible presence that keeps the space orderly. It is preventative — the goal is that a guest never walks into a problem.
